Tim Beattie

Born in Toronto in 1997, Tim Beattie is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in music performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he is studying on full scholarship under the tutelage of Allan Neave and Matthew McAllister. He was drawn to the guitar at a very young age, spending his formative years studying with maestro Robert Hamilton at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 2015, Tim undertook his first year of undergraduate studies with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux at the Cleveland Institute of Music where he was the recipient of the 2016 Ablan Honors Award for excellence in guitar studies. Following a move to Europe, Tim went on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where he graduated in with distinction
(Cum Laude) under the tutelage of Gabriel Bianco and Lex Eisenhardt. 

Tim has won several awards, including 1st prize at the 2019 North East Scotland Guitar Society Award, 1st prize and Audience Favourite prize at the 2019 Hamilton International Guitar Festival, 1st prize at the 2018 Brussels International Guitar Competition; 2nd prize, 2018 Uppsala Competition; 2nd prize and audience prize, 2018 Hamilton International Guitar Competition; 4th prize, 2017 Twents Gitaar Competition; 2nd prize, 2016 Antwerpen Gitaar Competition; 1st prize, 2016 James Stroud All-Ohio Guitar Competition; among many others. 

He has had masterclasses with Jorge Caballero, Roland Dyens, Marcin Dylla, Marko Feri, Johan Fostier, Paul Galbraith, Bill Kanengiser, Irina Kulikova, Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Jeffrey Mcfadden, Matteo Mela, Lorenzo Micheli, Judicaël Perroy, Göran Söllscher, Benjamin Verdery, and many others. 

He has enjoyed various chamber music collaborations, most recently with the newly formed North American Guitar Trio with David Steinhardt and Evan Dim, and past credits include collaborative performances with Rosanne Philippens, Karin Strobos, François Lambret, Ella van Poucke, Jeffrey McFadden, Pat Feely, Michael Kolk, Kristian del Cantero, the CvA Score Collective (contemporary ensemble) directed by Ed Spanjaard (Nieuw Ensemble), and others.

He has been featured on the programme Podium Wittemann (Dutch national television), CTV2 Barrie, Concertzender Actueel (Dutch national radio), the Drew Marshall Show (Toronto radio), and Young Classicals. Performance highlights include appearances at FirstOntario Concert Hall (supporting KD Lang), Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ Amsterdam (with CvA Score Collective), Spiegelzaal (Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Cultura Ede, Cleveland Museum of Art, Brussels
International Guitar Festival, Cleveland International Classical Guitar Festival, Chamber Music Orillia, Enkhuizen GitaarFestival, Montreal International Guitar Festival, Sauble Beach Guitar Festival, TheSpire Concert Series (Glasgow), Drumlanrig Castle (Scotland), and the Ullapool Guitar Festival (Scotland).




Tim offers lessons in classical guitar, music theory & analysis, as well as acoustic & electric guitar in all genres. 

Tuition available year-round via Zoom or video conference.
